Abstract

The water treatment process is a critical component of ensuring clean and safe drinking water for a variety of purposes. Through various processes and technologies, water sources are treated to remove contaminants and reduce risk to health. This process helps to ensure that the water is safe for consumption, agricultural use, commercial and industrial purposes, and other uses. This paper presents the development of a novel wastewater treatment process based on “gravity-driven membrane filtration”.  The paper contains the literature review chapter in which the different literature on the specified topic is evaluated to comprehend the various models and the methods utilized for the better obtaining of the outcome from the processes. The process utilizes a combination of membrane filtration and a combination of adsorption and flocculation techniques to achieve a high degree of water pre-treatment. The process is designed to reduce suspended solids, colloidal material, and organic micro pollutants from wastewater. The membrane bioreactor is designed to separate suspended solids and colloidal material from the wastewater, while the coagulation/flocculation unit is used to remove organic micro pollutants. The process is evaluated in terms of its performance, which is measured in terms of total suspended solids, dissolved organic carbon, and chemical oxygen demand removal efficiencies. The results show that the process is able to achieve a high degree of water pre-treatment and is effective at reducing the concentrations of pollutants in the wastewater. The paper concludes that the process is a promising and cost-effective alternative for wastewater treatment with future scope
