Abstract

The research aims to study one of the most severe factors of human insecurity, one of its manifestations, which is the problem of slum population and its implications for national security, by shedding light on the concepts of national security and human security and the relationship between them. Part and the whole, where national security is the comprehensive concept, and human security, through the rights it represents, represents the human right to adequate shelter as one of the basic pillars of human security.

This study seeks to clarify the implications of the distribution and size of the population of slum areas on national security as one of the problems facing human security, as empowering people and providing their needs for adequate housing is one of the factors affecting national security and one of its economic dimensions.

The research concluded that the number of residents of informal areas in the governorates of Iraq except for the Kurdistan region and the governorates (Nineveh, Salah al-Din, and Anbar) reached (3288,268) people in 2017, forming a percentage of (12.9%) of the total population of the studied governorates for the same year, and that the number The unemployed residents of slum areas have reached (344239) people, and they constitute (10.5%) of the population of slum areas, which requires concerted efforts to contain the inhabitants of slum areas and eliminate the phenomenon of informal settlements because they represent a threat to security Humanitarian and thus national security.
