Abstract

Due to urbanization, India has witnessed tremendous urban growth in last few decades. Rise in urban population has ultimately increased the travel demand. An efficient transportation system is essential to increase the accessibility and improved quality of commuting. The government has always come up with plans for infrastructural development to solve the traffic congestion problems.  In order to cope up with increase in travel demand, there is ever increase in number of vehicle ownership. As there is always increase in number of vehicles on road, the traffic congestion problem does not get solved. Most of the metro cities have been shortlisted under the Smart City Mission by Government of India. It is need of time to plan the smart mobility in the smart cities. An efficient public transport system can be designed so that modal shift is encouraged by the people as mode of choice for public transport.
