Abstract

This study aims to find the walkability index of Jalandhar (Model Town). Jalandhar is the city and district in the state of Punjab. The population of Jalandhar is 8.62 lakhs according to the census 2011. Walkability index is a measure of quality and safety of footpath and walkways. There are many pedestrians in the city so to find the comfort and safety of pedestrians this study is done. The study is based upon two methods MoUD, GWI. The MoUD method is developed by the Indian government for the Indian roads and conditions. The GWI method was developed by world bank by H.Krambeck. In this study the data is collected from Jalandhar (Model Town) and walkability index is calculated based upon the three methods. The results are came different with these methods so Modified walkability index is calculated. The modified walkability index is based upon parameters of MoUD and GWI methods.
